Digimon Season 1-5

Yamato "Matt" Ishida

Picture
Matt has served an odd role during the first season. He was one of the best friends of the group leader Tai, but he was also his rival, which led to a large internal conflict throughout the show and climaxed at the end of the season. It was mainly over whether or not Tai was a better older brother to T.K. than he was, and whether he was a better person than Matt. Matt was much more protective and concerned about the group as a whole, causing more conflict compared to Tai's head-first strategy.

He is the holder of the Crest of Friendship, which activated when
Joe risked his life to save T.K. from a Vegiemon and was then being strangled by it. Matt remembered how he had berated Joe earlier for constantly making mistakes and keeping them both stuck working in a diner to pay off the bill for Joe's meal, especially his accusation that Joe was making these mistakes on purpose. Realizing that, he also realized that he could not win his battles alone (a revelation that was finalized in his mind much later in the series) and needed the help of everyone, including Joe.

When they were in the real world, one of Matt's turning points was when he and TK meet Pumpkinmon and Gotsumon, whose deaths at the hands of
Myotismon hit Matt hard as expresses rage for such a horrible act. When the DigiDestined traveled back into the Real World, he had one encounter with his mother, which did not go well. Although T.K. was ecstatic to have his whole family together (if only for a minute), Matt refused to say much more than "Hi Mom" to her. This encounter revealed lingering resentments in him that continue even after he returns to the Digital World.

Upon returning to the Digital World, he became angry when he thought T.K. no longer needed him and decided to leave the group for a while. He was persuaded by
Cherrymon that Tai was his enemy and his psychological hindrance, which culminated into a major fight between them. Though the fight ended because of Kari's possession, Matt decided to leave the group and find himself. He returned briefly to save the group from Puppetmon before disappearing again. Towards the end of the series, he ended up a cave created from the darkness of his personal doubts, realizing the his parents' divorce broke his heart and made him resort to solitude. He refused to let anyone see him cry, which caused him to push away from potential friends. Gabumon helped him to understand that everything would be all right, and he was valuable. Matt then rejoined the party just in time for the final battle.

Gabumon - Rookie Level

Picture
Gabumon is a yellow-skinned wolf-like Digimon about 2½ feet tall. He has a 10 inch long horn on his head and a tail which is normally held in a semi-erect position. The tail has regularly-spaced bumps on its top, and his back is covered in a dog-like blue fur pelt from a young Garurumon. During the series he has proved that this pelt is removable, such as in "Subzero Ice Punch" where he and Matt were alone in a cold cave. Gabumon took off his pelt and gave it to Matt so he would get warm. Gabumon's belly is sky blue, with symmetric pink motifs. Gabumon's eyes are red and (although it is covered up) his muzzle is lizard-like. Gabumon's horn goes through a hole at the top of the pelt on his head. Four teeth are also attached to each side of pelt's muzzle, and three claws to the end of each limb. Handles are present inside the forelimbs; Gabumon's hands are usually wrapped around them to keep the pelt in place. The visible presence of these handles is erratic during the series, but Gabumon's hands are almost always drawn curled around something. Gabumon first meets Matt in the form of Tsunomon. The two meet as soon as Matt arrives in the Digital World. Tsunomon soon Digivolves into Gabumon to protect Matt against an attacking Kuwagamon and since then Gabumon has been the preferred form. Gabumon later Digivolves into several other, increasingly powerful forms.Gabumon has a mellow and rather "cool" attitude toward life. He is seen to be a bit shy, for he made sure no one was looking at him before he removed his pelt in "Subzero Ice Punch", to keep Matt warm when he had hypothermia. He loyally follows Matt, even when Matt had been tricked by Cherrymon into fighting against Tai and the other Digi-Destined. Eventually, he was able to convince his partner to rejoin the other Digi-Destined, after promising him that they would be "friends for life".
Attacks
Blue Blaster: Gabumon releases a stream of blue flames from his mouth.
Horn Attack: Gabumon attacks with the horn on his head.

Garurumon - Champion Level

Gabumon first Digivolved to Garurumon in the episode "Garurumon" in order to protect his partner Matt from a Seadramon. He appears many times during the File Island arc to help fight against AndromonMojyamon and later, Devimon
Attack
Howling Blaster: Garurumon blasts the opponent with blue icy cold flames.

WereGarurumon - Ultimate Level

Picture
WereGarurumon is Gabumon's Ultimate form. He is modeled after werewolves. Unlike Garurumon, WereGarurumon stands upright and has an anthropomorphic build. He wears a belt across his waist that goes across his upper body and connects to his blue jeans. A 'glove' covers one arm and spiked brass knuckles are on one hand. He also wears earrings and bandages on various parts of his body. Unlike most Digimon, He is actually smaller than his previous form. Gabumon reached this form in " digimon adventure episode 23 Weregarurumon's Diner " when Matt and Joe were forced to work at a Digimon restaurant after falling for DemiDevimon's schemes. When Matt decided to leave, the owner of the restaurant Digitamamon suddenly attacked T.K. shortly after he showed up. Joe saved T.K., but put his own life in danger, which allowed Matt to realize he needed his friends. This made his crest glow and allowed Garurumon to Digivolve to WereGarurumon and defeated Digitamamon. WereGarurumon appears again in some battles to help fight against Myotismon.
Attacks

Wolf Claw: WereGarurumon slashes his opponents with his powerful claws.
Garuru Kick: Throws a powerful kick at his opponent.

MetalGarurumon - Mega Level

Picture
MetalGarurumon is Gabumon's Mega form. He has mechanized his body completely. His belly is sky blue with Gabumon's symmetrical pink motifs. His tail has a striking resemblance to Gabumon's horn with a curved blade attached to the end. He has a pair of beamed wings on his back missile launcher. He has hidden weapons in his back, feet, legs, shoulders, stomach, eyes, and snout. Although he is mechanized he does not lose his previous agility, speed, or alertness. He is capable of flight because of the wings. MetalGarurumon first appearsin "Prophecy" when VenomMyotismon terrorized TokyoAngemon and Angewomon shot Matt and Tai, with their "Arrows of Hope and Light", as instructed to by a prophecy. This gave Gabumon and Agumon the power to Warp Digivolve to their mega forms. Together with WarGreymon (Agumon's Mega form), MetalGarurumon then destroyed their enemy. MetalGarurumon also appears again to fight against the Dark Masters. It was MetalGarurumon who destroyed Puppetmon, and also helped in the fight against Piedmon and Apocalymon. He is an extremely powerful Mega Digimon. MetalGarurumon and his attacks also closely resemble the unrelated Digimon KendoGarurumon.
