Digimon Season 1-5

Rika Nonaka

Picture
Rika, in the beginning of the series, sees Digimon as nothing more than mere computer data built for fighting, wanting her partner, Renamon, to be the strongest Digimon in the world. She attempts to strengthen Renamon by battling any bioemerging Digimon and having Renamon download their data after defeating them, but is frustrated at Renamon's lack of control over Digivolution. Eventually she realizes that the two must be on equal partnership and friendship. Rika claims that she plans to spend the rest of her life training Digimon, and has no career plans other than that. She is a bit bitter and extremely antisocial, but Takato Matsuki and Henry Wong manage to bring out the best in her. She lost a tournament to Ryo Akiyama two years before the series begins, which explains why she seems to resent him when she first meets him in the Digital World. After Ryo's disappearance, Rika wins the title "Digimon Queen". Rika takes Jeri Katou under her wing teaching her about Digimon cards and Digimon Taming when Jeri becomes a Tamer.

Even though she has begun to tolerate Takato and the others, she still is rather cold and aloof to them. While she is mostly a loner and prefers her own company, she still will talk to Renamon a lot. She used to make fun of Takato and Henry because of their emotional attachments to their Digimon, Guilmon and Terriermon, believing that such attachments make them weak, and unsuccessfully attempts to force them into battling Renamon. She continues to do so until she herself forms a small relationship with Renamon. Soon after deciding that Digimon can be both fighters and companions, Rika states that she doesn't feel like picking on Takato and Henry anymore and can't remember why she was so angry. Rika's relationship with Renamon is unusual, more as a human contemporary than either a pet like
Guilmon was a playful child like Terriermon. Renamon is very protective of Rika, preferring to follow her around as a lookout for danger than to play or eat all day as many other Tamers' Digimon do. At one point in the plot line, Rika and Renamon estrange themselves from one another because Renamon doesn't think she needs Rika to become stronger and Rika does not think Digimon are worth the trouble they cause. Rika's negative, independent, grouchy, dark, cynical and loner-like personality is substantially different from most of the female characters in the series. The exact reasons for this are unknown, although her mother seems unusually young and is divorced from her absent father. However, the creators of the Digimon Tamers series have noted that Rika's father's absence has nothing to do with Rika's "twisted" personality.

Rika's mother is a famous model, and constantly pushes Rika to worry more about her appearance, taking her to camera tests and buying "girly" outfits for her to wear all of which Rika push away angrily. Rika lives with her mother and her grandmother (her father is never seen in the series as her parents are divorced, but he is shown briefly in
Runaway Locomon when Rika is possessed by a Parisimon) and rarely obeys either of them. Neither ever punish her for this. Rika's grandmother tries to relate to Rika, but Rika refuses to let her. Later, Rika's grandmother discovers Renamon's existence and dubs her Rika's "guardian angel". She seems not at all surprised that Rika is a tamer, and promises Rika that she will keep her departure to the Digital World secret from Rika's mother. Rika is shocked that her grandmother is so understanding, and from then on is kinder and more open about her feelings to her grandmother. Just before Rika's battle with the D-Reaper, Rika's mother buys Rika a T-shirt with a full heart on it to replace the broken-heart one Rika usually wears. She says it is for good luck, and has bought a pink version of it for herself. Rika is touched and smiles at her mother before leaving.

At the end of the series, Henry's father, one of the first hackers to program Digimon as a form of artificial life, is forced to trigger a program that wipes out all Digimon in the real world in order to destroy the D-Reaper, a haywire cleanup program wreaking havoc on the real world. The program works, but in the process Renamon, Guilmon, Terriermon, and the other tamers' Digimon are forcibly de-digivolved to the point that they will be destroyed unless they return to the DigiWorld. The Digimon return to the Digiworld, leaving their tamers wondering if they will ever see them again. Rika seems torn at the parting, and sheds tears, something she rarely does because she prefers to avoid open displays of emotion, she also confesses to Renamon that she loves her, this being the first, and only time she has said this. As shown in the bonus episode
Runaway Locomon, however, the tamers do reunite with their Digimon after some time (presumably via a portal to the Digital World discovered by Takato during the series' epilogue). Rika rarely wears dresses, but secretly does not mind wearing them. She does not own any lower clothing besides jeans (as noted by her grandmother), and is convinced that there is nothing more important than being the best. She usually wears a yellow-turtlenecked T-shirt with a broken heart on the front, with short button-fly blue jeans, red wrist bands, red steel-toed sneakers, and buckles around her waist and leg. She prefers to wear her hair in a ponytail but takes it down when she is dressing up. She is also described as "beautiful" by her mother's cameraman. Around at the end of the series her T-Shirt with the broken heart is replaced by one with a complete one. This is most likely to symbolize that Rika as grown to be kind in the series.

As the season goes on Rika seems to grow attached to Impmon. In episode 20 "Out of the Blue", Rika tells Henry she is worried about Impmon being alright after the previous battle against a Deva. For when he left he was tired out and hurt from the battle when he did not even stand a chance against the Deva. Also in the episode, Janyu's Ark Rika and Renamon left the Ark in search of Impmon. Once she came back she was carrying Impmon in her hands just making it to the Ark before it left towards the real world. During the series there are multiple times Rika is shown being worried about Impmon. She seems to have a side to her that develops as the series progresses. This side is caring, concerned about others and a good person altogether.

Viximon - Training Level

Picture
Viximon is the In-Training form of Renamon. Viximon is a small yellow round ball with four legs, a pair of sharp pointy fox ears and a fluffy white-tipped tail.Viximon appears once when Renamon De-Digivolved after the defeat of the D-Reaper, and returned to the Digital World soon after.
Attack
Killing Stone: Viximon turns herself into a stone and attacks the opponent by emitting a poisonous gas.

Renamon - Rookie Level

Picture
Renamon is tall and powerful for a Rookie level Digimon. She is far more mature than the other Rookie Digimon, considering her experience and her jaded view on life. Renamon's feral features and penetrating icy blue eyes can make her seem quite intimidating, even when she does not mean to give that impression. She seems to be able to teleport short distances. Renamon can also run at high speeds. Throughout the entire series, she hardly ever smiles. She has the Taoist Taijitu symbol on her wrists and the zodiacal Cancer symbol on her thighs. Renamon became Rika's partner after she received her D-Power shortly after a Digimon Cards tournament. Many Digimon appeared to ask Rika to be their tamer, but at the end, Rika's choice was Renamon; "I just want one strong Digimon." Renamon remained as Rika's companion throughout the Tamers season. Renamon does not remember how she came to the real world from the Digiworld; she only remembers her partnership with Rika. Whenever Rika is alone, Renamon can appear to her.

At first, Renamon's view on humans was that they were just aides for Digimon in Digivolution, and her Tamer, Rika, thought that Digimon were just fighting machines. The two had a distant relationship. As time passed, their friendship grew stronger, having understood each other better, and the two saved each other on many occasions. It reached its zenith when, during the D-Reaper's attack, Rika told Renamon that she preferred fighting by Renamon's side over leaving the battle and saving herself. This enabled the final Bio-mergeance that sparked
Sakuyamon's birth.
Attacks

Diamond Storm: Renamon summons a cloud of razor-sharp ice shards which she fires on her foe.
Power Paw: Only used once in the show, Renamon's hands and feet are surrounded by blue fire as she strikes.
Kokhenyo: Renamon becomes surrounded by yellow leaves and swithes places with the foe.

Kyubimon - Champion Level

Picture
Kyubimon is Renamon's Champion level form. Kyubimon is a yellow nine-tailed fox with a white mane and mystical blue flames flaring around her paws and tail tips. Rika had wanted Renamon to digivolve for a long time, but wasn't able to achieve it. However, when the two were attacked by a Dokugumon, Renamon protected Rika, thus taking the full blast of Dokugumon's attack. Rika, who had never accepted Renamon as a living creature before, cried out in sorrow over Renamon's sacrifice. This emotional response caused Renamon to digivolve to Kyubimon, who was now able to defeat the Spider Digimon. Renamon later digivolves again several times to battle the Devas and other evil Digimon in the Digital World.
Attacks

Fox Tail Inferno: The blue flames on Kyubimon's tails become brighter, and ghostly faces similar to that of DemiMeramon's appear on them. The faces then become small fireballs which Kyubimon launches at her opponents to destroy them in an explosion of energy as well as trap them in a cage of blue flames which singes them.
Dragon Wheel: Kyubimon starts to spin very fast, which causes the flames on her body to erupt into a fiery inferno. This turns her body into a ball of swirling blue fire. When in this state, Kyubimon summons a mystical dragon, which emerges from her body to destroy her enemies.

Taomon - Ultimate Level

Picture
Taomon is Renamon's Ultimate form. Taomon's dress style, including the long hat and the robes she wears, is based upon the religion Taoism and a christian Vicar. Taomon fights by summoning various spells and weapons to help her harness the powers of the magical energy that flows through the universe. Taomon first appeared to fight the Ox Deva, Vajramon. Vajramon had asked to talk with Renamon, and the two briefly returned to the Digital World. Vajramon, who seemed smitten with Renamon, tried to convince her to join the Devas. When Renamon turned him down, Vajramon was enraged and attacked Renamon. With Rika's aid, Renamon was able to Digivolve to Taomon, defeating Vajramon easily and destroying him with the Talisman Of Light. Taomon later appeared again to fight VikaralamonBeelzemonZhuqiaomonand the agents of the D-Reaper.
Attacks
Thousand Spells: Taomon leaps high into the air with her sleeve-covered arms outstretched. She then shoots thousands of magical, red spell papers from them. The spell papers can bind enemies to a spot as well as combust in a fiery explosion.
Talisman of Light: A large, magical calligraphy brush emerges from Taomon's long sleeves, which can be used as both a weapon and a magical staff. The brush can be used to paint mystical symbols into the air, which release beams of pure light energy that can devastate all but the strongest of Digimon.
Talisman Spell: Taomon throws a magical red spell paper into the air, which is used to summon and manifest various magical effects. This includes a spherical shield of impenetrable magical energy, as well as releasing small spectral blasts.
Trinity Force: In this combined attack with WarGrowlmon and Rapidmon, Taomon turns into a crystal-like form, then a beam of energy, and then she combines with the other two (also in the form of energy beams at this point) into an energy arrow that resembles a crane.

Sakuyamon - Mega Level (Bio-Fusion)

Picture
Picture
Sakuyamon is the Mega form of Renamon. Sakuyamon was formed when Rika biomerged with Renamon while they took a leap of faith to save Calumon from the D-Reaper. Rika fell back into Renamon and there was a blinding flash of blue light. Data rings formed around them as the visage of a lady with long hair was seen leaping high into the moonlight, landing clad in golden armor and holding a khakkhara. Sakuyamon appeared thereafter in almost every battle against the D-Reaper. Near the end of the series, Sakuyamon passed her energy to Justimon to help him defeat the Cable-Reaper, which only proved to be in vain. She later returns in Runaway Locomon during the final battle in which they were overwhelmed until Gallantmon: Crimson Mode saved the day and destroyed all of the Parasimon in one shot with his Crimson Light attack. It is noteworthy that in episode 49 of Digimon Tamers, Renamon stated to Rika's mother that digimon do not have genders when questioned as to whether or not she was female.
Attacks
Amethyst Mandala: Creates a huge ring of golden energy that surrounds an enemy and slowly decreases in size, crushing it.
Spirit Strike: Summons four fox spirits that contain the powers of fire, water, wind and lightning that obey and fight for her.
Amethyst Wind: Summons a mystical wind that carries hundreds of purple crystalline shards. These shards can rip enemies to shreds.
Talisman Sphere: Creates a spherical crystalline barrier that is charged with magical energy. The barrier can deflect incoming attacks as well as radiating outwards and destroying all enemies that come in to contact with it. It can also go through walls.
